The ILUCIDARE team is travelling to Iraqi Kurdistan for a coaching session in Duhok and Amedi, focusing on ecosystem innovations and how to link traditional techniques and crafts to the larger socio-economic context.
Amedi is a hill historic town rich of cultural heritage and natural beauty. The area has a need and potential for development in time of political stability. Based on the ILUCIDARE handbook and toolbox, the local actors (government, municipality, residents) can be driven towards the understanding that protection of heritage is an important step for sustainable development. This ILUCIDARE activity builds upon its partner World Monuments Fund's long experience in Amedi and collaboration with the local authorities and discussions on necessities and priorities at the site.
The coaching session will start with a visit of the Erbil Citadel and of the Iraqi Institute for the Conservation of Antiquities and Heritage, the lower town and the bazaar. It will be followed by a visit of Acre, Lalesh (Yezidi holy place) and Al Qosh (Christian village) as starting point for discussion with local stakeholders before joining Amedi for on-site discussions and Duhok on the following day.
