The ILUCIDARE Summer School "Heritage and innovation: Central Europe and beyond" will provide you with a unique opportunity to explore the relationship between heritage and innovation. It will help you to expand your knowledge and build practical skills that are necessary to be effective on the frontline of shaping heritage for future generations.

ILUCIDARE Summer School offers diverse learning opportunities organised around three main building blocks:
Expert Sessions
You will get a chance to participate in lively and informative session formats (such as panel discussions, round tables, interviews, etc.) where world renowned experts will discuss issues related to heritage and innovation. You will be invited to interact with those experts by asking questions, actively participating in discussions, and exchanging ideas. You will also be encouraged to develop professional and social contacts.
Innovation Workshops
You will participate in the innovation creation process with the application of the Design Thinking methodology. More importantly, you will be working – together with other participants – to find a creative answer to real-life challenges presented to you by the management of the Glass Heritage Center in Krosno. The Center is a well-recognized and innovative approach to industrial heritage. You will be asked to develop solutions to the challenges that they’ve been facing. In this process, you will be guided by innovation experts and Design Thinking moderators.
Networking
The social programme of the school will provide you with many opportunities to socialise and explore the city of Krakow and the region of south-east Poland. It will comprise field trips, study visits, and excursions which will help you get to know other participants well and build long-lasting relationships that will support your future work and further career development.
Practical information
Eligibility
The school is dedicated to heritage managers, young professionals, and researchers (up to 5 years of professional experience), as well as students in the field of heritage studies (at least 3 years of undergraduate study experience). Additionally, applicants should have an excellent command of English (spoken and written).
The ILUCIDARE Summer School Committee will select 20 participants from all eligible candidates. Students will be selected and prioritised based on the following criteria: overall application score (including assessment of self-evaluation and performance targets, commitment and dedication to the school’s objectives), professional experience, diversity (belonging to an under-represented social group, representing different nationalities/ethnic groups).
The ILUCIDARE Summer School is a non-credit course.
Fees
There is no course fee. The organisers of the summer school will cover all the transportation and accommodation costs in the EU (costs of travel for participation from outside the EU will be reimbursed up to an average travel cost to Krakow from an EU city). However, students are responsible for procuring their own health insurance coverage.
Date and location
The Summer School will take place from 18 to 24 July 2021 in Krakow-Krosno, Poland.
Important: The school is planned to use a hybrid teaching model (a mix of on-line and in-person) and all courses will be delivered in-line with government COVID-19 guidelines.
Even though the school is intended to be an in-person event - with all the selected participants arriving in Krakow and participating in all seminars, classes, and workshops in person, the COVID-19 situation may force us to have the course delivered in a fully on-line setting. Participants will be informed of the intended delivery method in early June, following the announcement of the application results.
